The White Wagtail (Motacilla alba) is a small passerine in the wagtail family Motacillidae, which also includes the pipits and longclaws.

This species breeds in much of Europe and Asia and parts of north Africa. It is resident in the mildest parts of its range, but otherwise migrates to Africa. It has a toehold in Alaska as a scarce breeder.

This is an insectivorous bird of open country, often near habitation and water. It prefers bare areas for feeding, where it can see and pursue its prey.

It nests in crevices in stone walls and similar natural and man-made structures.

This is a slender bird, 16.5-19cm in length, with the characteristic long, constantly wagging tail of its genus. It is basically grey above and white below, with a white face, black cap and black throat.

The resident British subspecies, the Pied Wagtail, Motacilla alba yarrellii, is a generally blacker bird than the nominate race of western Europe, M. a. alba, but is otherwise identical in its behaviour.

It is likely that the differentiation of White Wagtail into two subspecies (or races) in western Europe has arisen because of the partial isolation of the mainly resident British form, although M. a. yarrellii now also breeds in adjacent areas of the neighbouring European mainland.

Fantastic shot!Nice compo&good details.TFS!

I believe this to be a Motacilla Alba Personata but the white stripes at the corner of the mouth puzzle me. I could not find a MotAlb Personata in whinter plumage (which I think is the case here).
This specimens coloration puzelled me since I have never seen a MotAlb with this coloration and it was not consistent with the coloration of MotAlb Subpersonata either. Thanks for showing this because I learned something new today.

(Edit) Further investigation revealed that indeed it is a MotAlb Personata Here is the evidence.
I also found out that the race Personata is sometimes treated as a separate species Motacilla Personata - masked wagtail.

(Edit) Since you did not hear about what I am talking about I am back with evidence that this picture is of a special race of MotAlb, the race Personata (MotAlb has four races: Alba, Yarrellii, Subpersonata and Personata). First I will post a workshop showing a MotAlb Alba so you have a comparison and I will evidenciate the differences.
The white spot around the eye in MotAlb Alba is round behind the eye and continues along both sides of the throat. In Personata is quite different, it continues behind the eye with a wedge and is not present down the throat.
On the wing MotAlb Alba shows a clear alternation of black and white where as Personata has a white or light-grey patch.
MotAlb Alba in whinter plumage is FAR whiter on the head and neck than the one you present.
I hope you can see the difference! I agree with you that it is a MotAlb but I was talking about different races.

The picture is nice and sharp and shows beautiful identification details!
I like it a lot!
