To the left you see a Tortoise shieldbug (Heteroptera; Scutelleridae; Eurygaster testudinaria (Geoffroy 1785); Schildkrötenwanze) sitting on Sanguisorba officinalis. For once the discovery was not made in my backyard but at the nearby South shore of Lake Neuchâtel. It may be a "first" to TN. The bug to the right is Carpocoris pudicus (Poda 1771), a Pentatomid bug.

ID: The Scutelleridae family is characterized by a large Scutellum that covers the wings right down to their tips. 13 species of this family occur in my region, 4 of them belong to the genus Eurygaster. Both, Eurygaster testudinaria and E. maura have two white spots on the base of the scutellum and a varying dark pattern on head and prothorax. But only E. testudinaria occurs in wetlands. Its distribution is from Southern Scandinavia to the Mediterranean and throughout Asia to Japan. It sucks on dried seeds of grasses, Carex, Juncus and others. Carpocoris pudicus to the right is a eumediterranean species and will be presented later.

Hallo Dieter!

Ich weiss noch, wie in meiner Kindheit Wanzen verpönt waren. Diese Abneigung verlor ich erst mit dem intensiven Kontakt mit der Natur, gänzlich seit ich fotogerafiere und Bilder wie dieses hier auf TN betrachte. Auch dieses Mal hast du ein technisch perfektes Bild geschaffen, und die Bearbeitung in PS ist bestens gelungen.

I Just love the clarity and a kind of diffused lighting which has brought out the beautiful colors. The POV with the diffused BG will keep the viewers interest on the subject and does not distract!
I'm not a big fan of Odd formats and still prefer 4/3 or 16/9 , but thats me! Good picture once again :-)

Great composition of these two bugs sucking on a wetland plant, amazing. Excellent comosition and great sharpness and details. YOur photography is always improving. Good PP work too.
