White-winged Crossbill 5
| [Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe |
White-winged Crossbills feed exclusively on Conifer seeds, especially spruce and tamarack. Hangs on cones and extracts seeds with oddly shaped bill. Individual White-winged Crossbills can eat up to 3,000 conifer seeds each day.
Because the seeds became scarce, this White-winged Crossbill was picking up from the snow the few seeds, which have dropped off the cones.
