Another picture of a Butterfly from our trip to the London Butterfly House. This shows the underside of the Butterfly i will show its more colourful upperside at a later date.

Indian Leaf ( Kallima paralekta ) The Indian Leaf butterfly copies a dead leaf. The upper side of its wings are blue and orange, but when it lands and closes its wings it resembles a dead leaf. It closes its wings, showing a dull brown colour with fine brown lines like the veins of a leaf. The form and colouring of the wings make it hard to recognize the "living brown leaf". It does this to camouflage itself from predators.

Hello Nicholas,
Nice, almost leaf-shaped exotic butterfly species. You photographed it very well showing natural pose and colours, and original shape (good DOF and details). This is really interesting contribution to biodiversity of Lepidoptera here on TN.
Best regards,
Radomir

Hi Nick

It is such a shame that the butterfly house is closing down. It is a lovely place. I love these butterflies that look like leaves. Perfect sharpness, nice colours and great details

It most certainly does look like a dried leaf. Very nice picture. Simple in colour yet is important in its part of the kingdom of butterflies eh? Very sharp and naturally colored. I have heard of some butterfly location closing. This is not he one I hope.

Bonjour Nicholas, belle composition mais ce que j'apprécie le plus,c'est l'effet contraste entre le papillon et le bg.Tout beau travail,c'est bien joué.

Great exposure, detail, color, and POV Nicholas. I like the green contrasting BG and the patterns/colors of the leaf it's perched on.

Hi Nick

A true specialist of the camouflage, this butterfly looks terrific in your photo here!
The sharp and colors really makes it look like a leaf and you did great to integrate part of the surrounding to enhance that resembalnce.
Very nice sharp details especially around the head, very good esposure and charming diagonal composition, too.

Bravo and TFS
Horia

Hello Nick,
I think this is one of the most fascinating butterflies as they're totally camouflaged underneath and so bright and beautiful on the upper side. This is an excellent capture of the underside showing sharp details and I like the rolled-up proboscis! Nice contrasting background and a fine composition too.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla
