|The White Woodpecker, Leuconerpes candidus, is a species of woodpecker (Family Picidae) found in South America. This woodpecker is a native of the grasslands of Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina. Specially fields with trees, palm groves, orchards.|
28, 5 cm.
Iris witish; bare orbital area yellow. Mainly white with a black mantle connecting to streak behind the eye; tail black; yellow nape patch and midbelly.
No other woodpecker shows as much white. A conspicuous woodpecker that almost always is in the open; often perches on snags. Rather social, occurring in small groups of up to 4-5 individuals and seeming to occupy large home ranges. Regularly seen in long flights high above the ground and, notably for a woodpecker, its flight paths are relatively level (not bounding). Eats mainly fruit, also some insects.
Call ultra-distinctive and far-carrying, typically a sharp nasal âkweeyrâ, often given in flight, heralding the approach of a group of these spectacular, unique woodpeckers.

Superb action. You have captured the action without compromising the sharpness. The eye with yellow ring. Beautiful.

Fantastic shot of this white woodpecker, this is a new bird for me. I love it's bright yellow eye ring and contrasting white, black and gray feathers. Excellent in-flight shot showing fine detail and just the right amount of exposure.
Une magnifique prise en vol, de bonnes couleurs et détails intéressants particulièrement vers l'Åil.
