We went for a day trip west of Townsville to the cool rainforests of Paluma National Park. In the small village of Paluma is one small restaurant that has a bird feeder outside. While we enjoyed meal of nachos, a variety of species came to feeder to munch on the banana treat.
This is a Lewin’s Honeyeater (Meliphaga lewinii) a fairly common wet forest species found throughout the ranges of eastern Australia.
A rather large common honeyeater at 22 cm (9in), they are usually found near the top of the canopy, only descending to feed on the nectar of low flowering plants. It was therefore great to be able see this familiar species at such a close range and get a reasonable shot as well.

Hi Chris,

Good detail of the plumage, face and eye of this bird. A proud pose and background nicely out of focus so that the bird stands out well.

Hello Chris,
Great close portrait of a Lewin's Honeyeater, a fine reminder of our visit to Queensland. The POV, sharpness against the dark OOF naturakl BG and pose all contribute to an excellent imgae of this species.
TFS this beaut!

Hola amigo,
bella captura,
pov y magnífico plumaje,
color y buen encuadre,
saludos Chris.

Hola Chris, admiro a los fotógrafos de aves ya que considero que es de las especialidades fotográficas más complicadas... yo sigo con los insectos que son más fáciles de cazar !
Excelente pose de ese ave desconocida para mí.

Very sharp image of this beautiful bird from Australia, Chris. If you did not use a tripod for this shot, you have truly steady hands.
The details and colours on the subject are perfect. The expression in the bird's eye is eloquent; it is looking at something intently.
TFS this beauty and best regards.

Colors really work well together. Excellent feather detail. Wonder what would come if I tried bananas in my feeders. Gary
