I shot this Rainbow Lorikeet through my (closed) bedroom window. He was feeding on a flowering palm tree. Rainbow Lorikeets are quite common in the Sydney region and a few pairs live in the neighbourhood, but this was the first time they had been in my small yard and given me an opportunity to shot them.
Rainbow Lorikeets are distributed throughout eastern and south-eastern Australia. They are found in a wide variety of habitats including open woodland, dense moist forests and urban gardens. They feed predominantly on nectar and have brush-tipped tongues that help extract the nectar from and floral source they can find. They are usually found in pair or family groups, occasionally congregating in flocks of hundreds to several thousand during the localised flowering of some eucalypt species. They can be attracted to garden feeders and become quite tame in a short period of time. In their natural environment they are highly nomadic, flying hundreds of kilometres as they search for suitable flowering plants.

Simpatica ed inusuale composizione per questo bellissimo e coloratissimo pappagallo, buona definizione, molto bello il contrasto dei colori. Grazie e complimenti. Ciao Maurizio

Hi Chris, perfect capture of this cute Rainbow Loriket sitting on a palm tree vertically. Wonderful colurs and framing my friend! TFS.

What a fortunate man you are to shoot this beautiful bird through your brdroom window, Chris!
The bird hanging up-side-down between those lovely strands of palm flowers looks extremely attractive.
Thanks and regards.

Hello Chris,
Though these Rainbow Lorrikeets are often to be seen they usually get involved with the flowers and vegeation where they feed so that taking a good shot them is not easy.
Great that you could take this one with good sharpness on the contrasting light-coloured palm flowers in your garden with just the right exposure and from a fine POV.
In, fact this is one of the best shots that I have seen of this species and TFS!

Hola Chris,
Preciosa composición de esta bellísima ave, magnífica luz, color con excelente definición. Saludos

Very beautiful shot with excellent colours. The upside down perspective looks vry interesting and eye catching. Also the flowers make a border around the bird which looks wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
