[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
With my previous photo I mentioned that I was afraid to get any closer because I thought the sea lion would return to the sea. But I took the change and slowly moved closer and to the other side of him. He did not bother and stayed at his spot.

I did however still felt reluctant to get too close, not because he would go away, but because it is a wild animal and you never know what he would do.

I soon found out that he was tired and landed on the beach to rest. I think this photo gives a good indication how tired he really was.

It was a bit of a tricky photo. The last rays of sun were just enough to illuminate the beach and sea lion but did slow down my shutter. I was a bit reluctant to change my ISO setting so I had to concentrate hard to deal with this 1/50 of a second. I guess I could have gone up to ISO400 without any risks of introducing noise

Hi Niek,

Excellent vangen. Nice gewonnen met deze foto. Persoonlijk, als ik heel veel zeehonden. Deze soort van de dieren zijn heel slim en erg grappig.

Hi Niek.
Simply great three-dimensional shot. Beautiful animal stand out of BG greatly. You managed to reflect silk of its skin as well as all other features and details are superb. DOF is great and colour palette of the shot is very attractive and pleasant for look. Well done and TFS.

Hallo Niek,
Ik was daar ook, maar voor het digitale tijdperk. Het kwaliteitsverschil tussen mijn dia's en deze foto is erg groot. Prachtige scherpe opname in mooie natuurlijke kleuren. Vanuit een goed laag standpunt genomen, met oog contact.
Geniet van het weekend,
Peter

Hi Niek. You were able to get a fine close up of this beautiful animal. It looks very tired as you say. Taken with good detail and colours. You did well with the low light of the evening. TFS.

Hello Niek,

You managed very well the exposition here in order to sea the nice light reflection on the sea lion's skin! Even if the animal is centered within the frame, the composition works very well for me! Great pov great stability at 1/50s. Personally I have no problem to go to ISO400 or even ISO640 with the 40D.

Great job and TFS!

Michel

Hi Niek

Your shutter speed ties in with your explanation of the fading light and under the circumstance I believe you did an excellent job. I'm not sure if it was a reddish or pinkish sunset, but there seems to be a lot of pink hues reflecting on the water. This gives the shot a soft and appreciative feel on the eyes. Technically the rest of the image is also fine with a good composition, quite sufficient DOF thus ensuring the entire animal shows great details, and a lovely POF.

Well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot
