Hi folks,

Fomitopsis betulina (Bull.) B.K. Cui, M.L. Han & Y.C. Dai is a common polypore, causing brown caries exclusively on birch (Betula sp.). Better known as Piptoporus betulinus, but recent phyllogenetic studies prove the species belongs to another genus, namely Fomitopsis.

Photo: taken in 2013, in Hungary, using manual exposure mode and flash. PP: moderate cropping, after re-sizing selective sharpening on the trama of the closest specimen.

Thanks for looking.

Hi Laszlo,i like a lot the perspective so original and imposing, nice idea to take a mushromms on a tree, but the light levels are terribles, very hard on the mushroom that seems a bit overxposed too,a brave attempt but not the best result. Have a nice week and thanks,Luciano

因為距離太大 也很難選擇

Hello Laszlo,
A nice shot of this rather large shelf mushroom. I like the POV you chose which is a bit different from what I normally see here on TN. Without flash this would have been almost impossible to do and still obtain the detail you managed to capture. Unfortunately the flash can sometimes work against you, as it did here on the closest specimen. I am betting if you would have used a tighter aperture it would have came out perfect.
Anyhow, I tried a WS to see if I could bring out some of the lost detail. Not sure if it helped or hurt the image, you be the judge.

Ciao Laszlo, great POV for original composition, wonderful bright colors, fine details, excellent clarity and splendid light, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Hello László

The POV you have choose with the vertical framing
it gives dynamism to this fungi photography, TFS

Hello Laszlo,
I like your picture of fungi due to its unusual POV and framing. Yes, light bit OE on the bottom fungi but you could easily get some details (you got details in the border line) reducing light in PP. I don't have extra flash so never use.
Thanks for sharing,
