Last light at the door.

Durdle Door is part of the Dorset Jurassic coast line.
This is a very popular place for photographers all year round and is owned by the English heritage.

The walk down to the beach is very steap and must be nearly 150 steps, in the distance the highest point is known as Bats head.

The light on this evening was very dull and flat with plenty of mist, Portland can normally be seen from here but not on this night due to the heavy mist in the background. So my shots i had taken with a fellow photographer where very poor. We packed our gear away and headed back to the car, which is quiet a trek back up these steps to find a small break in the clouds and the sun to finally appear just over Bats head, so out come the gear again for a quick set up and shoot which lasted all of 2 minutes and the light had gone. Of these two minutes i managed to get this shot of the last light at the door.

I hope you enjoy viewing this image as i have taking it.

Thanks for looking and your comments.
Regards
Mike

Brilliant landscape capture! Excellent composition.
Thanks for sharing!

Bonjour Mike,

Un seul mot WOW, very beautiful...Congratulation !

Nice one Mr Gray. Good to see this again, it's a really good strong image.

Gorgeous seascape at sunset. The geo-morphology and color mix is great. You made the most of the lighting. Well done.

Hi Mike

Well done on a very good shot. Nicely composed, good POV, crisp, clear sharp and with very good depth of colour. :-)

Hi Mike,
A beautiful composition on this landscape/seascape shot. The super wide angle worked extremely well. Perfect timing caught great light.
Nice work!

Hi Mike,

This reminds me of your "Chesil Storm" post. I have just purchased your camera and lens. So that means I should be able to do what you do. ha ha ha . I wish. So what filter did you use? Maybe that's it. Maybe if I had your filter too....who am I kidding? Fantastic job! I suppose I should be inspired rather than envious. So thanks for posting something I can aspire to.

Evelynn : )

It's also in Nanny McPhee! (you can tell I'm a Mum *LOL*).
Really like your chosen pov. It's a shame about the light, but the sun going down over the sweeping cliff top is beautiful.
A superb image. Thanks for positng.

I have not seen a lot of photos taken here but remember one fom a fellow TN member not too long ago. The angel and POV make this for me. The use of the beach to lead the eye to the sunset is very good. I like this landscape a lot. Very well done.

Beautiful seascape - the light, POV and colours are fantastic! It looks like a very tranquil setting, but I'm sure it didn't feel that way for you trying to get a shot before the light was gone.

Fantastic! The light and colours are superb. Excellent compoition. I like it so much!

This is such a stunning photo, the lighting and colors are amazing. I love the curve of the beach and the dark rocks on the left. The light shining through the clouds hightlights things just enough. Such a dramatic, moody shot, very romantic to my eye. It looks like the seas were calm that day, well done.

An amazingly beautiful shot of this fascinating looking place, Mike.
The elephant-like rock shape in water at one end and the slanting rays of the sunset on the other make a lovely composition. The DOV is excellent.

Wonderful landscape Mike, very dramatic with the light on the clouds. Beautiful composition that directs the eye throught the picture to the points of interest and lets in wander around from "door " to setting sun, along the lines of the clouds and the curve of the beach.
Excellent post!

Gabi

Hi Mike,
Excellent photo of such a beautiful scenery. I realy like the wide angle. The depth in this shot is super, with the stairs leading you from the f/g into the photo. The curved beach leads you toward the horizon and sun. The sunlight us stunning with some beautiful rays. The horizon is not clear enough for me to judge if it is tilted, so I won't, but it does look a little strange. Anyway. A super photo.
TFS,
Niek
