Hi John: Welcome to TN. This is a great shot. Lovely colours and excellent focus where it counts on the bird: the eye, beak and that dramatic tail. The blurred wings add a dynamism. The b/ground is nicely blurred and unobtrusive while a lovely colour. I'd suggest cropping off a bit of the green at the bottom: there's a bit too much of it, and your pic might look even more dramatic as a long, leaner crop. Very well done. Let's have more like this! I really like this photo.
One of our great British birds.
I am going to Eccup Reservoir in Yorkshire next week, in the hope of being able to get some photos of the Red Kite colony that lives there.
I will be hard pressed to match the quality of this shot.

A perfect shot! Good sharpness of whole body and nice ligth on the tail fethers. I like the composition and to see the bird with "nature"background. Most pictures of flying broadwinged raptors are taken with heaven as background. Perhaps I´m also is looking at "genes" from my homecounty. Some years ago Red Kites was captured in Scania and transportet and let free in Great Brittain. As I understand this projekt has goon well with several breeding pairs today?
