Hello TreckNature Lovers!
As the chances for posting a fresh 100th are very limited in Sweden at this time of year, I decided not to wait until I took a suitable picture and came up with this shot from last summer.

The Banded Demoiselle (Calopteryx splendens) is a popular subject on TN and it needs no special introduction.

It suffices to say that this is a picture of a male taken by a fairly fast flowing small river about 25 km from my home.

Its close relative, C. virgo has entirely bluish-black wings. Often the the two species can be seen in the same habitat, though virgo seems to prefer faster flowing streams with clearer water.

The female is green with pale brownish transparent wings.

I took this shot at a distance of about 2.5 meters with my camera hand-held.

I would have liked to have had the whole length of the shadow in this shot but as it ended at the edge of the leaf it is presented in this way with only about 30% of the shot cropped away.
Best wishes to you all, Ivan

Ricardo

Congratulations Ivan for the 100 presentations!
An interesting image of this species always so attractive for their wonderful colors, very captured here.
I like the captured point of view, with the beauty of the insect very well illuminated and the bonus of the shade that collaborates with the aesthetics of the presentation.

Hi Ivan,
A superb picture taken from 2.5 meters and hand-held. Incredible sharpness and exposure. Thanks for sharing this well done picture. Congratualtions for your 100th post and looking forward for more of your fine pictures.

Dear Ivan,
what I think I learn from this very succesful shot is as follows: you could do it hand-held, you held your flash in hand as well, you had no second light source or reflector.
Right? So I have something to try next summer.
Thanks for sharing,
Dietrich

Hi Ivan.
My best wishes for your 100th post and many thanks for your contribution at TN by wonderful pictures, nice notes and interesting comments.

I like this shot as many-many others your pictures so much. Amazing diagonal composition, excellent colours and sharpness of the insect, great reproduction of its texture and texture of the leaf, wonderful lighting and its reflection into dragonfly's eyes. Bravo, my friend, and good luck.
Alexei.

An excellent capture worthy of your 100th post, Ivan. Congratulations!
You have apparently set your targets on the frontal portion of the Demoiselle and done a great job. I am riveted on the clear colours and details in focus and cast a second look at the shadow only after reading your note. Frankly, shadow does not interest me in this picture.
Wishing you the best for your next 100!

Hi Ivan,
if it's up to me it's just the beginning and I'd like to see a lot more of your pictures here on TN. You choose one of my favorite damselflies as your 100th post. Not far from my house runs a stream and in summertime it's full of banded demoiselles. Great metallic colours and sharp details. Keep on going!!
Best regards, JAcob

Hi Ivan,
My compliments first of all for the posting - may you do another hundred. Secondly for the shot that is in my opiniopn stunning. Fantastic colours and pin sharp detail make it outstanding. Even the shadows help in making it so pleasing to the eye. I particularly like the diagonal framing of the insect that makes the compo so effective.

happy 100th
and an interesting shot of the flyer with wings folded...
the head and thorax are really sharp and i think what makes it so immediate are the dark tones against the green background.
didnt notice the shadow being of any distraction..fine as it is..you could have shortened it a bit so it didnt touch the edge of the frame..?
cheers
geof
