The Grey Partridge (Perdix perdix)is common in much of N. and C. Europe and it is sporadic in S. Sweden.

But like the Pheasant and other gamebirds its occurrence is largely dependent on releases into the wild for shooting purposes and the birds shown here probably have that origin.

However they also breed in the wild and partridges that are from a wild stock are impossible to differentiate and they are likely to mix. They are prolific breeders with clutches of up to 20 eggs.

At this time of the year I wanted a wintery shot but as there is no snow and it is still mild, I had to take this image from my archives.

This shot was digiscoped though my Zeiss (5 telescope at a distance of about 30 meters and cropped by about 50%. As use of Neat Image to reduce noise caused a flat effect, I chose to accept the bit of noise in the hope that you can enjoy this shot anyway.

Hello Ivan,
Very nice capture.I liked colors,POV,framing and composition a lot.TFS

I wouldn't care to use NeatImage or any other noise filter to kill those lovely details on the wings of these patridges, Ivan. In my humble opinion, you are fully justified in NOT USING the filter here.
In my younger days, I used to accompany my father on his winter hunts in the Himalayan wildernesses, especially after snowfalls. Your image reminds me of those days; we too used to have wild patridges to hunt then (they were, of course, different from the ones I see in your picture). Sadly, half a century later, the birds are almost extinct now, thanks to indisrciminate poaching and erosion of the natural habitat in the name of modern "progress".
Warm regards,

Hi Ivan,
At first glance I was in doubt whether it was noise or the snow's texture. That is to show that it really has a minimal effect on the overall quality of the shot. Your shot manages to show all angles of view of the bird at rest. Light managent is very good and compo excellent.
As regards neatimage, I think [IMMO] that its noise filtering is not so efficient and moreover, as you graphically indicated, its results are rather flat. Principally that is the reason why I switched to Helicon filter, which besides the noise reduction filter, offers quite a comprehensive suite of enhancement tools.

Hi Ivan,
Nicely capturing these partridges. Well composed picture. Nice natural colors.
Great shot.

Hola Ivan.- Bella foto, hermosos colores del plumaje de estas Perdices. Colores muy naturales y gran nitidez. Luis52.

Hello Ivan,
This shot reminds me of some Polish early XXth century painting by Czeslaw Wasilewski, entitled "Partridges on the snow" ("Kuropatwy na sniegu" in Polish). See it here.
There is some common mood isn't it!?
I like the nice afternoon light too.
Best greetings,

hi ivan,
nice capture,
well composed shot,
nice pov, good dof,
tfs & regards

Muy buenas Ivan
La verdad es que captaste un bando de pardillas muy bueno, yo quizás lo que noto es que tiene quizás un exceso de ruido
Un saludo y lo dicho buena captura.

Hi Ivan

A very nice and quality shot with your telescope.
The sharpness here is great considerring the distance and the noise level is definately low enought not to bother.
The colors are also very lovely and well saturated, the POV is great and the contrast between the partridges adn the snow in the BG is excellent.
Very well seen and shot!

Cheers and TFS

Cool group shot of this little company. I have never seen this guys here in Sweden. It is always nice to see that is always something more to see and learn.

Hola Ivan,
Una imagen realmente preciosa y encantadora, excelente la composición y nitidez. Un saludo

Outstanding exposure producing authentic colors in beautiful tones of brown and gray. Very nice composition and perfect frame for this shot.

bonjour ivan
je trouve ce cliché tres bon,en general les perdrix se trouve cachées sur un fond qui leur ressemble en couleur.

Hi Ivan,
Beautiful! I love the entire composition and the likeable birds. Details, colours and mark, all these things are nice. Interesting note

Hello Ivan

An excellent close-up photo of these Grey Partridges,
fine POV and DOF, lovely light coming to the
photo and these beautiful birds, excellent focus,
sharpness, and details, beautiful catch-lights
on every birds eye, one time in December 2008
I have done rey Partridges photo but not as
beautiful as yours, I posted that photo at that time,
I also remember at that time (December 2008)
I was going by car very slowly checking in the
agricultural fields, I saw a little group
(they say comapy for theses Partridges),
I took my bridge camera but I was so excited
I have saw them that my hands start to shake
they took their flight and no photo !
