Hello dear TN-friends, I just want to say
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I'm not posting at the time but I pop in now and then.
This picture , The flyingDrake, is one of the first I posted here, 2004 and maybe some oldtimers remember it.
It's taken with a Canon 20d and a Sigma 70-200.

I can also say "Feliz Navidad" beacuse this winter we wintering in a small Spanish town called Almunecar on tropical coast in south Spain.

I think you know most about the Mallard but here si some info from Wikipedia.

The mallard (/ˈmælɑrd/ or /ˈmælərd/) or wild duck (Anas platyrhynchos) is a dabbling duck which breeds throughout the temperate and subtropical Americas, Europe, Asia, and North Africa, and has been introduced to New Zealand, Australia, Peru, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, the Falkland Islands and South Africa. This duck belongs to the subfamily Anatinae of the waterfowl family Anatidae.

The male birds (drakes) have a glossy green head and are grey on wings and belly, while the females (hens or ducks) have mainly brown-speckled plumage. Both sexes have an area of white-bordered black speculum feathers which commonly also include iridescent blue feathers especially among males. Mallards live in wetlands, eat water plants and small animals, and are social animals preferring to congregate in groups or flocks of varying sizes. This species is the ancestor of most breeds of domestic ducks.

Hello Gert,
You better believe I remember this shot...it was my favorite from the first time I saw it. If I'm not mistaken it was featured on your intro page. I would occasionally go back and look at it just trying to imagine how I would feel if I could someday capture such an image. No need to critique it as it is still as special to me today as it was back then.
"Merry Christmas" Gert, and have a "Happy New Year"
Ron

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your loved ones.

Merry Christmas to you too, Gert!
As usual, your images set a standard apart and this picture of a male Mallard is no exception.
Thanks and keep coming back.

Hello Gert,

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAVE A NICE AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR.

Beautiful presentation....
Regards,
Srikumar

Hi Gert,
I remember you deleted a lot of great photos from your gallery a few years ago, so I regard this one... Probably some more come back, too. Beautiful shot, probably with 1/2000 the mallard's body and plumage might be sharper, but the composition's breathtaking.
Have a nice festive season, and I hope you return to the site fully, with both new and old pics. Kind regards from the Emerald Isle, László
