Still very busy times unfortunatelly...

This is my weekend's trophy - Zebra Spider (Salticus scenicus) taken at stone wall in Botanic Garden. We were walking there with my friend Pozioma, talking about insects and kinds of blooming flower, when I spotted this cute fellow. All last yaer I was trying to capture it, but without any success. One of first walks this year and I've got it :-) The spider is very small [5-7mm] and fast. As most of jumping spiders it is fearless and very curious. It trace cam with its big eyes and sometimes jump at lens or your fingers. I'm really glad that I captured it!

And now from Wiki:

The zebra spider (Salticus scenicus) is a common household jumping spider. Like other jumping spiders, it does not build a web. It uses its four pairs of large eyes to locate prey and its jumping ability to pounce and capture it.

The zebra spider gets its name from the black and cream colored stripes on its abdomen, which is covered with filiform hairs that give it a "fuzzy" appearance. Most specimens are usually about half a centimeter in length, and they stand low to the ground due to its short but strong legs. Its pedipalps are large, white, and furry. Its locomotion is mainly a skipping action that allows it to cover relatively long distances quickly. When it spies prey, it creeps slowly, stops, then springs for the catch. The male also has an active courtship dance, possibly as a means to communicate to the female that he is not prey. The spider's vision is excellent and it will react if it sees a human, cat, or other threat poking at it.

This species is fond of sharing houses with humans, where environmental conditions are constant and insect prey is in abundance. It also lives outdoors and can be seen sunning itself on fences and rocks. While it does not build webs, the zebra spider often uses its silk to build a nest in a safe corner, and as a security line when it traverses vertical surfaces.

Witaj Greg!
Kia ora MF. And "I love Raynox" is at work again. VG macro, those hairs stand out so well, and nice and sharp too. Those big black eyes look so attractive. Good catch-light in the 4 of them as well.
Good job Greg, Bravo

Hi Greg

A splendid macro example here from you of this interesing and very cute zebra spider.
The magnification level here is amazing and the details and definition you managed here are outstanding!
The lighting and colors are also very beautiful and the POV is terrific and also helped you into getting a wonderul quadruple-catchlighting in its eyes :))
Superb work!

Bravo and TFS

bonjour grzeg
la profondeur de champ est trop juste mais je crois que f/8 est le maximum autorisé son votre appareil,en revanche la tête est superbement detaillée et c'est simplement magnifique.

Good trophy, Grzegorz!
these animal are really small, so you concentrated on the eyes for focus, very good. To make this portrait a menacing one you went down to the level of the spider, great. Of course you risk to cut off legs etc., as tiny grains block the view. That's the price to pay. Thanks for showing this rare portrait,
Cheers,
Dietrich

Hello Grzegorz

Very nice close-up of this Zebra Spider. Good sharpness/dof with a well blurred background and still some details in the spider's face. I like the pov with the diagonal.

Well done

Hi Grzegorz. Excellent macro. well done. Technically perfect picture. tfs. Stev

Hello Greg,
Hope your are OK :-)
The picture is lovely! The big shiny eyes always look great and kind of sweet, even if the creature on the picture is a spider. I very much like the POV and the "rainbow" drops in the BG.
Superb work!

Hello Greg !
What an impressive littel spider ! it looks very impressive on your picture, particularly for somebody like me who is afraid by spiders ! Excellent details, even the little hairs are sharp ! I also like the diagonal composition, the DOF and the colors very much. The spider looks directly into the camera, that's excellent. very well done !
Valerie.

Hello Grzegorz,
I discovered this excellent capture following Horia's link from his 4-13-2007 upload. Great diagonal composition with spot-on focus. There seems to be much less color fringing here (if that's what I'm seeing). Well done. Regards,
Hakan

If you look for ir, you wont find it... and you will find it when you have forgotten about it... thats a nice rule for macro nature photography :)
I like those two pairs of eyes looking at me in the diagonal prespective. Good magnification, TFS.
Hope you and Joanna & ... follow well ;)
