|Yes, really strange... Because the English name of this species, Daldinia concentrica (Bolton) Ces. & De Not. is nothing but King Alfred's Cake... Of course I found this rather common ascomycota many times in Hungary and in Ireland also, but this photo is what I like the most about it.|
Tech talk: manual exposure mode, diffuse flash, ISO 200, through PP only moderate cropping and re-sharpening after re-sizing.

Very unusual looking fungi for sure, King Alfred's baker must have made some odd looking cakes:) Wonderful focus with plenty of DOF. Nicely composed image with great use of flash.
