Hello All

since a few days, i try to take photos fof Dragon- and Damselflies at the river near my house and at the lakes of Reichshoffen and Jeagerthal, this one is taken at the rive where are mostly calopteryx splendens and virgo, this is one of my first attempt
I hope you like it

Banded Demoiselle

The Banded Demoiselle Calopteryx splendens is a European damselfly. It is often found along slow-flowing streams and rivers.

Identification

The male has translucent wings which each have a broad, dark iridescent blue-black spot (or band) across the outer part. On immature dragonflies the spot is dark brown.
The female has translucent, pale green iridescent wings with a white patch near the tip, and a metallic green body.

Eggs and larvae

Females can lay up to 10 eggs per minute for 45 minutes. They lay in a wide variety of emergent or floating plants, sometimes even submerging to do so.
The eggs hatch after 14 days. The larvae have very long legs and are stick-shaped. They develop over two years, usually. They tolerate muddy water and overwinter buried in mud. When they are ready to moult into an adult, they climb up a suitable reed or plant and shed their skin.

Behaviour

Males are usually territorial, but large numbers can sometimes be found in lush bankside plants and on floating objects. They court females by opening their wings and performing an aerial dance. They are usually found among mature, slow-flowing streams and rivers and sometimes canals.

Natural habitat areas

The Demoiselle is found in Taganay and Zyuratkul National Parks of Russia, being listed under protection in the Red Book of Chelyabinsk Oblast

Calopterix Eclatant

Le Caloptéryx éclatant (Calopteryx splendens) est une espèce facile à reconnaître. Le vol papillonnant de l'espèce et ses grandes ailes arrondies sont caractéristiques. Présent en effectifs réduits, le Caloptéryx éclatant est très mobile.

Identification des imagos matures

Le Caloptéryx éclatant (Calopteryx splendens) est la plus grande espèce de zygoptère observée sur la zone d'inventaire. Sa taille (4 à 5 centimètres de long) est comparable à celle des petits anisoptères, tels les sympétrums. Les caractéristiques de l'espèce sont la couleur verte (femelles) ou bleue (mâles) métallique et les larges ailes arrondies non pédonculées et dépourvues de véritable ptérostigma. Les mâles arborent des ailes colorées, bleu sombre sur la moitié de leur longueur. Les Caloptéryx ayant une longévité de plus d'un mois au stade imaginal, leur apparence évolue et présente différents stades de maturation.

Hi Jacqueline . A good close up of the Male Banded Demoiselle. A nice pose on the grass . with fine detail and natural colours. I like the dark part of the wing. well done TFs.

Hi Jacqueline.
We have not so beautiful species of damselfly. It is funny I have not any good shot of any damselfly. You have. Composition is amazing. Inclined leaf and dry stem and fine creature on ir are looked perfectly. Colours of the shot are wonderful. Image of the insect is not razor sharp but your lens is not macro lens. Well done and kind wishes.

Bonjour Jacqueline,
Cette image de Calopteryx splendens se présente de manière très plaisante. D'abord par le sujet lui-même, cette libellule porte bien son qualificatif "splendens". Ensuite par la palette de couleurs (vert et bleu) et ensuite par son aspect graphique, trois parallèles (libellule, tige et feuille). Bien vu!

I never stop admiring this damselfly, Jacqueline.
Perhaps it is the most beautiful in the entire species by virtue of its attractive colours and shapely body.
This is a wonderful image with sharp focus on the subject. The diogonal orientation makes an impressive presentation.

Not the most perfect shot technically, because the closest parts of the insect became oof (out-of-focus), the branch is overexposured a bit and there's some background noise - nevertheless I like the pic due to the harsh blue color of the dragonfly. The fact that I give 1 point instead of 2 doesn't mean I don't respect You as a person and a photographer very much, but, by my opinion this superb scene would have been captured a bit better way. No problem - next time. I'm waiting for it.

Well composed and god color tone!
It's interesting for me seeing blue dragonfly. Dragonfly's deep blue sitting stick diagonally postponed is strongly clear as well as part where wing is black. Technically, it draws out good effect in the whole about the contrast between the front and the background as well as shadow of foot of dragonfly projected to diagonally curved leaf, I think.
