Hello Catherine,
A fine close shot of this Muscid Fly, the black body and shiny parts making it difficult to photograph as well as you did here.
Despite the relatively shallow DOF you focused on it well to achieve excellent overall sharpness in lighting that did not cause to much reflection. Excellent contribution of a common species but not often seen on TN!

Hi Catherine,
Mesembrina is a real challenge to photographers, I know from my own experience. The difficulties are the overall blackness and the reflections on the smooth surface. Sunlight is not advised, a flash neither. You used the first, me the latter (see my bad post from 2007). But it is such a pretty, cuddly fly, we have to try again next summer, Catherine.

Bonjour Catherine,
Très contente de voir cette mouche, car je la connais bien, mais je n'avais pas de nom à lui donner! Je la vois surtout près de mon chalet et il est vrai il y a quelques fois du bétail dans les environs.
Excellente netteté et bon cadrage serré.
