The Golden Orb Web Spider (Costa Rica) :
Since you, Laurens (euroblinkie) are into spiders now, I make my little contribution and dedicate it to you, the indefatigable entomo-spiderologist!

The big Golden Orb Web Spider (Nephila clavipes, Araña de seda dorada, Goldene Radnetzspinne. Araneidae) has a wide distribution in the tropical New World, since it is inadvertently imported with plant parts. Both animals in the picture are females, the males are much smaller. The surprise to me was the kind of thread, very long, solid and non-sticky. The orb can last for a whole season. In Wikipedia I found that the thread has a tensil strength 8 times higher than a similar thread made of high-quality steel. No wonder then are biologists and engineers interested in this spider.
I almost forgot: Linnaeus described this species, which means that he knew about it.

Guten Morgen Dieter,
Schöne Widmung an Laurens!
Mit Dank und herzlichem Gruss,

Hello Dietrich,
Excellent picture of this left side Spider. IMHO, it could have been better to go for just that Spider and you could show us this full frame in workshop.
Good details and perfect background.
Thanks and regards,
