A beautiful and very friendly moth!

Class: Insecta
Order: Lepidoptera
Family: Arctiidae
Genus: Utetheisa
Species: U. ornatrix

The Ornate Moth or Ornamented Utetheisa is a moth of the Arctiidae family. It is found across the Americas, except for Pacific North America, the Amazon Basin and adjacent regions, and the cold north and south. Formerly, the Bella Moth or Beautiful Utetheisa of temperate eastern North America was usually separated as Utetheisa bella; now it is united with the Ornate Moth in Utetheisa ornatrix.
The wingspan is 33-46 mm. The larvae feed on Crotalaria, Melilot and sometimes Comptonia species, which contain poisonous alkaloid compounds. As an adult, the moths extrude the compound in a frothy spit as a defense against predation.

Hello Luciano,
What a beauty. Nice macro of this tiny butterfly in superb sharpness and details. Beautiful contrasting colours.

Peter

Hello Luciano,
Indeed a strange behavior....Sometimes insects like butterflies are attracted to the salt on the human skin. They approach humans without any fear.....
Marius.

Hello Luciano,
What a lovely reddish color to this particular specimen. I have seen this species of moth many times on the butterfly bushes in my yard, but only of the orange coloration. Tac sharp focus displaying exceptional detail and just the right amount of exposure.

Very beautiful Moth from Cuba on your thumbnail, Luciano.
The designs and markings on the wings are truly eye-catching.

Hi Luciano,
Friendly and wonderful moth, and if I remember well, I already saw it in your gallery previously. It doesn't matter, it's lovely and spectacular on each photo. Great flash usage, colors and sharpness, perfect exposure.
Kind regards from Ireland, László
