This species of the Starling was a new one for me during my recent trip to Pangot. The chestnut tailed starling is very different from the starling species that we get to see in the plains; though the look in their eyes is pretty similar.

I found this starling perched on a branch beside a feeder which the camp-lodge had kept for feeding the birds. The starling came down to quench its thirst in the early morning.

Chestnut Tailed Starling - This species is a summer visitor to the west & central Himalayas and is the resident of the NE part of the subcontinent. An Adult has a greyish head with rufous underparts and chestnut grey color tail. The bill is yellow with a bluish base and the eye is whitish. Gives out a loud metallic note along with a mild tremulous whistle. Habitat - Open wooded areas. (Info Courtesy: Birds of Indian Subcontinent by Grimmett, Inskipp & Inskipp.

Hi Satirtha,
Bombastic image with incredibly harmonic composition. All the technical details are brilliant as well, but the composition itself is what immediately caught me, even in the thumbnail view. Very pleasant image to look at, with informative note. The photo of the day for me. Hats off for you!
Kind regards from Ireland, László

Hello Satirtha,
Another new bird for me and a lovely one at that. The plumage color reminds me somewhat of a Clay Colored Robin and the multi colored bill is simply gorgeous. Excellent sharpness and just the right amount of exposure. Love that unique looking eye! Well done!!
