Back from Mongolia (no bicycling ):
I present to you what is presumably Ochotona pallasi, Pallas's Pika (Pallas-Pfeifhase). These ground dwelling creatures don't look like hares but they belong indeed to the order Lagomorpha. They can whistle like marmots, only on a higher register. They are prey to Eagles. 5 species of Pika have to be considered for Mongolia. According to recent research presented by Mongolian students in Takhin Tal, there is only one species to be found in the area the picture was taken. A "First on TN".
