We continue with our series of broadbills in West Malaysia.
The Green Broadbill (Calyptomena viridis) - Male, has a very shiny sheen almost flourescent with a distinctive black ear patch and black bars on wing coverts. The female is of a duller colour and does not have the black markings.
These green feathered birds are fond of stealing nesting materials from their cousings the Silver Breasted Broadbills. Their reported habitat is evergreen broadleaved jungle up to 1300m (mostly below 800m). With their green colour they blend in extremely well and are well camouflaged to the surroundings.
Picture taken will fill flash and a "better beamer" with the whole rig mounted on a Gitzo 1325 and Wimberly II head.

Hi Phil

What stunning coloured plumage. It looks a little odd with such a short tail. Lovely camera work. TFS.

Wow Phil:Una especie maravillosa y una foto superior...saludos.

What a wonderful BRIGHT green bird. It's nicely framed with a good DOF. The markings give it cartoon features. Just a beautiful bird. TFS Trevor
