common summer resident. (? first time sighting for me)
usually find singly in thornveld, riverine bush and reeds. frequents weaver and bishop-bird colonies where females are often chased in lengthy aerial pursuits by their hosts.
reference: newmans birds of southern africa.

got this shot just outside of Satara camp at Kruger National Park on a fine morning. It was a very lucky spot, since he has inside a thorn thicket and was staying still. after sometime he flew to a somewhat clear open space and I could make these shots. what a beautiful bird! its first time spotting for me.

I have never seen this bird before, Paul, so thanks for introducing him to me. : )
He has beautiful colors, and I just love the markings on his head.

Hi Paul,
A fine shot of a Diederik Cuckoo a species that I once saw in Gambia, but didn't have chance to take a shot.
This is sharp and well composed with excellent BG.

A great shot of a very shy bird, these guys are normally surrounded by small twigs and this clear background makes the shot extra special. You could possibly sharpen another 5 points without getting halos around the bird. Where there was no direct sun on the bird you can use your camera flash to just give it that glint in the eye.
