The pied kingfisher is a water kingfisher and is found widely distributed across Africa and Asia. Its black and white plumage, crest and the habit of hovering over clear lakes and rivers before diving for fish makes it distinctive. Males have a double band across the breast while females have a single gorget that is often broken in the middle. They are usually found in pairs or small family parties. When perched, they often bob their head and flick up their tail.

Hello George,
What a neat shot of this beautiful Kingfisher with it's prey stretched out as long as it is. The exposure and white balance is great allowing us to view it's black and white plumage in natural colors and pleasing light. Tac sharp focus displaying excellent detail. Not sure how you managed to get the BG the way it is , but I like it.

Professional job!

Hello George,

I'm watching BG bokeh....then froggy....then bird! Beautiful photograph even in such harsh light. Like the way you guard your lens from the Sun. Nice exposure....
Thanks for sharing,
Regards and have a nice WE,

Hi George
Amazing! Excellent picture.

Hi George,
Many thanks for your comment on my latest pic, I'm glad you had a look on the site. This photo, even the composition might be (in my opinion) more powerful with a vertical crop, is absolutely unique with the kingfisher and his lunch. And your lens makes really pleasant bokeh as well... Good natural effect, interesting shot. Well worth my praise, congratulations!
Have a nice festive season, kind regards from the rainy and windy Emerald Isle, László

Ouch! Poor frog. But a great shot for the photographer.Amazing colors in the frog, sharp across the whole picture.
